A&E Construction Co. was responsible for the renovation of space for the Department of Otorhinolaringology (ORL), in the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. The project totals approximately 2,400 square feet and is divided among two existing buildings, creating offices, laboratories, and testing areas for the department. The majority of the project is located on the 3rd and 6th Floors of the Richards Building, a landmark campus facility designed by Louis Kahn. The remaining 600 square feet is located in the John Morgan Building.
The scope of the project included selective demolition, new drywall partitions and soffits, radio frequency shielding at the testing booths, new flooring, laboratory casework, and modifications to the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. Both buildings were fully occupied during the construction.
